Junho é o mês em que se registram quedas significativas nos estoques dos bancos de sangue, públicos e privados. Com o intuito de destacar a importância da doação de sangue nesse momento do ano, a campanha Junho Vermelho, lançada no estado de São Paulo, virou lei estadual em 15 de março de 2017 (nº 16.386) passando a ser difundida em todo o país.
Para ser doador voluntário é preciso ter entre 16 e 69 anos de idade. Menores de 18 poderão ser doadores se apresentarem o consentimento do adulto responsável. O doador também precisa estar em boas condições de saúde e ter peso mínimo de 50 quilos. Entre uma doação e outra é necessário respeitar o intervalo para reposição de ferro pelo organismo, mulheres devem aguardar 120 dias, e homens 90 dias.
